An antique decorative collectors plate, decorated in a Chinese-style motif known as 'Chinese Pattern 16201'. The motif is an antique 19th-century Vicorian design common on transferware and ironstone pottery. It is also known as the 'Teahouse' or Chinoiserie pattern. The pattern was originally created by British manufacturers Ashworth Bros, though from the backstamp all that can be determined is that the plate was made in England in the Victorian era with the intention of being sold for export. The backstamp reads 'Faïence Anglaise Première Qualité' or 'English pottery of the first quality'.
The motif depicts two people in a garden and a third figure inside the house, all wearing traditional Chinese dress. There is also a floral decoration around the border of the plate. Decorated via transferware with hand-applied colours.
The plate is in good condition for an antique, no cracks and no major chips. The rim feels rough in places all around the edge, where, I believe, some kind of gilded detail was mostly lost and at least 2 small chips can be felt. The whole piece is covered in fine crazing and the underside shows some age stains. Please inspect pictures.
Approx 9.25" in diameter
